Services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at 15330 Alice Moody Road in Washington (behind the cemetery). Lance Howton will be officiating. There will be a private family burial service. Nelda was born on Nov. 22, 1920, to William Dollner and Margaret Ellis Zimmer in Coalinga, Calif. She was a high school graduate and during World War II, she served in the Navy as part of the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). On Nov. 24, 1949, she married Julius J. Self, who passed away in 1987. She later married Chris Lyles on Oct. 13, 1996. She worked for Gold Cities Insurance and then Currnow-Halls Insurance Agency for 35 years. She was a member of the American Legion; Soroptimist; Latter-Day Saints church; and the Squareknots, square dance club. Her hobbies included, swimming, hiking, bowling, square dancing, gardening, crocheting and reading. Nelda was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be missed by family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Nedra Self of Hermiston, Ore.; granddaughter, Donna Nicklin of Keizer, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Kari, Tanner "TJ", and Taylor "TY" Nicklin of Keizer, Ore.; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Margaret Zimmer and William Dollner; her first husband, Julius Self, second husband, Chris Lyles; and sisters, Dorothy Sirokman and Alice Moody. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nelda's name may be made to Hospice of the Foothills. Arrangements are in the care of Hooper & Weaver.
