Born Nell Hilsabeck on Nov. 29, 1883, in Marshall County, she was the daughter of Isaac and Cora Howe Hilsabeck. She received her education in the rural schools of Marshall County. She was married to Thomas E Binkley and they farmed near Keosauqua for several years prior to moving to Marshalltown, where Mrs. Binkley was employed several years as a seamstress at Spureon's. Born Nell Hilsabeck on Nov. 29, 1883, in Marshall County, she was the daughter of Isaac and Cora Howe Hilsabeck. She received her education in the rural schools of Marshall County. She was married to Thomas E Binkley and they farmed near Keosauqua for several years prior to moving to Marshalltown, where Mrs. Binkley was employed several years as a seamstress at Spureon's. Preceding her in death were her husband and a son, Ray. Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Jessie Brown of Pembine, Wis. ; Elizabeth Brindle of Marshalltown; William Jennings Binkley and Clifford Binkley, both of Tempe, Ariz. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Estel-Perrin-Avey chapel at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. Glen A Jaspers of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. from Marshalltown IA newspaper Times Republican dated January 1 1986 *********************** Quiet But Fruitful Life On her 100th birthday two years ago, Mrs. Nell Binkley of Marshalltown, who died this past week, had the best time, she said, because a young lad had fun with her in a spelling bee sorts. That was significant because Mrs Binkey had been nearly blind for many years and hadn't been able to read or study the printed word—yet spelling was the way she stimulated her mind in recent years. She had many friends, too, for she was a seamstress at Spurgeon's and Willard's for many years, spurning retirement until she was well into her 80's when her failing eyesight, more than a longing for a rocking chair, forced her to quit. Even in her late 80's and 90's she traveled alone by bus to visit her sons in Arizona and kept in touch with the last of her parents' family, her sister, Avis Biddle, who is 87 living in Oakridge, Ore.
