Description	:	Nell Hearne Leonard, 93, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. Born June 6, 1920 in Welch, WV, she was the daughter of the late George Adam Hearne and Emma Lown Hearne. Nell attended Henderson and Wiley schools and graduated from Boyden High School in 1938 where she was a member of the Glee Club. She also graduated from Salisbury Business College. Read More	Nell Hearne Leonard, 93, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. Born June 6, 1920 in Welch, WV, she was the daughter of the late George Adam Hearne and Emma Lown Hearne. Nell attended Henderson and Wiley schools and graduated from Boyden High School in 1938 where she was a member of the Glee Club. She also graduated from Salisbury Business College. She was employed at Cannon Mills Plant #7 for 25 years, the Swink Plant for 7 years, Cone Mills for 18 years and the City Consignment Shop. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, she was also a member of Community Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Harold B. Jarrett Auxiliary, Post #342 and was an active member for 48 year and served as President from 1978-79, a member of the Salisbury and Spencer Moose Lodges and in later years was active at the Rufty Holmes Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William “Bill” Leonard on Jan. 22, 1997, three brothers, Richard Hearne in 1957, Andrew Hearne in 1980 and Edward Hearne in 1985, nephew, Johnny Pickeral, and special friend Henry Eagle. Nell is survived by dear friends and neighbors, Claude and Telka Gullett and nephews Mike Pickeral and his wife Juanita and Charles Pickeral. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM – Monday (Nov. 25) at the Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Keith Mason, minister of Community Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, c/o Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144 or Community Baptist Church, 325 Calhoun St., Salisbury, NC 28144. The family would like to thank the O. O. Rufty Family, Lena Schenck, Arlene Brown, Dr. Amy Wilson, the staff of Autumn Care of Salisbury and the staff of the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House for the loving care they gave Nell. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Leonard family.
