Description	:	Nell Hurto was born Feb. 15, 1899 in Jasper County to William and Ida Mae Mechley Curry. One of nine children, she received her education in the area of her birth. On Feb. 2, 1920, Nell and Ray Gallentine were united in marriage. They farmed south of Marshalltown and had one son, LeRoy. Ray died in 1934. Nell married Earl Hurto on March 4, 1936. One of nine children, she received her education in the area of her birth. On Feb. 2, 1920, Nell and Ray Gallentine were united in marriage. They farmed south of Marshalltown and had one son, LeRoy. Ray died in 1934. Nell married Earl Hurto on March 4, 1936. The couple farmed west of Marshalltown and raised their two sons from their first marriages. Earl preceded her in death in 1963. She was a member of the Marshalltown Senior Citizens. Nell had lived at 205 N. 2nd Ave. in Marshalltown until entering Villa del Sol Care Center where she died Monday, July 7, 1997. Survivors included her son, LeRoy Gallentine of Gilman; her step-son Earl Hurto of Newton; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister Helen Yordy of Newton. Nell was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, four sisters and four brothers. Visitation was held after 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Chapel where family were present. Pastor Bob Kosbau officiated at the funeral service following at 3:30 p.m. Burial was in Melbourne Memorial Gardens.
