She had not been feeling well for some time, but attended the Mother and Daughter banquet at the M.E. church on Thursday evening in seemingly good health. Later, in the night, after returning home, she suffered a severe attack of appendicitis and the doctor advised an immediate operation, which was performed at her home on Thursday morning by Dr. H.C. Later, in the night, after returning home, she suffered a severe attack of appendicitis and the doctor advised an immediate operation, which was performed at her home on Thursday morning by Dr. H.C. OBITUARY Nelle Faye Giddings was born near Arnold, February 8, 1897, and departed from this life Friday morning, May 11, 1923, at her home near Ransom. She was married to Jesse L. Dieffenbach June 8, 1918. To this union, one child, Verla Jean, was born March 12, 1922. She was converted in early childhood, and reconsecrated in 1915. Her whole life was one of Christian service in the Methodist Church of which she was a member. Only one who had the hope of a better world could have faced the end as calmly and fearlessly as she. Even in her severe pain, talked of the comfort which her favorite Psalm, the Twenty-Third, gave her. She is survived by her husband, baby daughter, father, stepmother, two brothers, and three sisters, as well as by a host of friends which includes everyone who knew her. Nelle seemed frankly and innocently happy in her home life, possessed a charming, quiet disposition, and a countenance which beautifully expressed her deep interest in all things good. She was a talented musician and her sweet low voice in song has led many to a purer and better life. Her own life was so blameless that she saw only the good in everyone. Funeral services were held at her home and at the church. Rev. Snyder who conducted the services spoke of her favorite Psalm and its meaning to all of us. We cannot understand why she was taken from us in the midst of a life of usefulness. We can only say, “Thy Will Be Done” and remember with the poet that, Not in cruelty, not in wrath the Reaper came that day, ‘Twas an angel visited the green earth and took the flower away.” Ransom Record, May 17, 1923
