Glasgow, on East Main Street at 2:30 o'clock Friday morning. She had been a nurse in Cincinnati for a number of years. Death resulted from a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at Buntain & Rhoads funeral home Sunday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. W. L. Snider. Burial in Hillsboro Cemetery. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Glasgow, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles Mercer of Hillsboro and a niece Mrs. Helen King of Hamersville. Nelle, the only daughter of Arthur and Mildred Mercer, was born near Belfast, Ohio, Aug. 3, 1891, and passed away at her home in Hillsboro, Ohio, June 18, 1948, having reached the age of 56 years, 10 months and 15 days. She is survived by her Mother, now Mrs. Mildred Glasgow, a number of relatives and a host of friends. When but a child the departed identified herself with the Methodist Church, of which she was an active member through the years 'til the time of her untimely passing. Most of her useful life was spent in and around Hillsboro. Some 21 years ago she went to Cincinnati and engaged in the profession of nursing. She was very happy and successful in this endeavor and was so engaged when stricken with her last illness. Nelle was possessed of a wonderful personality and a fine sense of good humor, which made her a favorite in church and social circles, and also of patients she attended in her chosen profession. It has been the pleasure and good fortune of the writer of this brief memoir to have known this splendid lady from her childhood, and to have had the rare privilege of being her day school teacher during a number of winter terms. She was then, as well as in recent years, sought by all who knew her and acclaimed a favorite. Now, her life work is ended. But she is not dead. The kind and cheerful words by her spoken, the touch of her gentle and well trained hand, and the many good deeds well done while living, will continue to live on and on in the minds and hearts of all who knew her. The poet has well said "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." The efficacy of that statement is most truthfully and beautifully exemplified in the life of Nelle Mercer. She has kept the faith: She has fought a good fight and now we hear the voice of the Master say, "Come up higher, enter thou into the joys of thy Lord." "We know He watches the sparrows that fall, Hears the sad cry of the grieved hearts that call; Friends, Father, Mother, He heareth them all, We can trust for the rest." I want to thank all who sent me cards and flowers and in any way showed their sympathy on this the saddest time of my life, to Buntain & Rhoads for their kind efficient duty and Dr. Roads for his kind and faithful calls and Rev.
