Read More	The Altoona Herald, Altoona, IA March 30, 1933 Alice Redman is Laid to Rest Nellie Alice West, daughter of Harvey and Birdella West, was born in Mitchellville, Iowa, February 12, 1905, and had attained the age of 28 years, 1 month, and 10 days when she departed from this life at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Wednesday, March 22, at 12:30 p. m. On December 31, 1926, she was united to Reuben Joseph Redman. To them was born one child, a daughter, Barbara Joannem now six years of age. Besides the young daughter, the husband survives, also the father and mother and a sister Dorothy, who with many relatives and friends mourn her passing. When she was nine years of age the family moved from Mitchellville to their present home west of Altoona where she lived until the time of her marriage. Following her marriage four years were spent residing in Des Moines; the remaining years of her life were spent at Bowsher Station. She was graduated from the eighth grade of the West school, after which she entered East high school. Following the completion of her High school course she spent three years in teaching. For the past five years "Alice" as she was devotedly known by her many friends, had been in poor health, but her splendid womanly spirit rose above her suffering and her handicap, and she was manifestly a soul of patience to all who knew her. She had a profound faith in Christ, having openly confessed Him, The Church of Christ being her preference. Very reluctantly are associations severed with one so young, yet because human life is not perfect it must be so; therefore we strive to be reconciled. The following is one of many poems which Alice gathered out of her extensive reading and had ccarefully filed away. Death Is A Door Death is only an old door Set in a garden wall. On gentle hinges it gives, at dusk, When the thrushes call. Along the lintal are green leaves, Beyond, the light lies still. Very willing and weary feet Go over that sill. There is nothing to trouble any heart, 'Nothing to hurt at all. Death is only a quiet door In an old wall. The funeral service was held from the Altoona Church of Christ Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Chas. S. Macy, Pastor of the church. A magnificent number of relatives and friends were present. A mixed Quartette composed of Wilbur Yount, Pauline Reiman, Florence Iseminger, and Watson Mason sang. Mrs. Ray Burgett was accompanist. Interment was made in the Altoona cemetery.
