She came west in the autumn of 1887 and settled at Lodgepole, where she married Rell Petteys at the famous old Libby Ranch in 1888. Mr. and Mrs. Petteys took a homestead north of Lodgepole, where they lived until they "proved up". Later, Mr. Petteys was foreman for W.C. Bullock, an early day rancher in the Lodgepole community. As one of the genuine pioneers of the western frontier, Mrs. Petteys experienced the hazards of early day life in this sparsely settled territory. She was known as a quiet, unassuming person whose life was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She spent most of her life in Lodgepole, but, during the past few years, she had divided her time between the homes of her two daughters, Mrs. James McDaniel of Sidney and Mrs. George Minshall of Lodgepole. Mrs. Petteys was a sister of Bert Bates of Lodgepole, another of the earliest settlers in this county. Mr. Bates recalled this week that Mrs. Petteys came west with her mother, a year after other members of the family had come here to establish a home. She lived in Cheyenne for a short time, where she was a dressmaker, but most of her sixty years in the west were spent as a resident of Cheyenne County. She was one of the most widely known citizens of the Lodgepole community and news of her death was sorrowful news to a legion of friends.--The Telegraph (Sidney, NE), Friday, Feb. 21, 1947, Pg. 1
