Dak. 1882-1982 I think the most important event in my life was when we moved with our family from Wisconsin to South Dakota. Ed’s father had three quarters of land north of Wessington for a number of years. Ed used to come out with his father at harvest time and was always anxious to come out here to live, but I didn’t want to leave Wisconsin. We finally moved out in 1924. Ed and the hired hand came out the latter part of February with three immigrant cars with our belongings. On March 10, 1924, Ed’s father, Clyde, Marie, Lavora and I arrived in Wessington on the train. We were all invited over to the William Pautsch family home for dinner. They were always wonderful neighbors. We lived on this farm for 10 years, had some good years and some bad ones. We moved up on the Frank Yoder farm in 1934 and lived there for 22 years. We bought seven quarters of the farm after the death of Mr. and Mrs. Yoder. We rented the farm to our son, Dale, who was born in 1926, and we moved to Wessington in September, 1956. Our daughter, Marie passed away October 20, 1940, at the age of 20, after a long illness with a kidney disease. Ed passed away in September 1961 and I lived alone in our home in Wessington after that time. Our daughter Lavora married Murray Heavirland and lives in Huron. They have three children and two grandchildren. Their son, Bob, married Linda Rogers and lives in Minnesota, and they have two sons. Larry works in Huron with a construction company and Joyce teaches at Harrold. Our son, Clyde married Muriel Franklin and they have three boys and one girl. Dale married Carolyn Christian and they have three sons and three grandchildren. As I finish this on August 24, 1976, I am 84 years old. (Nell Johnsen entered the Huron Nursing Home in August 1977, soon after her 85th birthday. She passed away November 10, 1978. Her daughter Lavora Heavirland preceded her in death, April 20, 1978.)
