Description	:	Nellie Blain was born July 26, 1861 in Anoka, Minnesota. At the age of eighteen the family came to Holt county, Nebraska, where her father, Rev. Bartley Blain, took an active part in the pioneer work of the Methodist church and the educational life of this section of Nebraska. In 1882 she was married to James R. Smith at Middle Branch, Nebraska. To this union six children were born, of whom four daughters survive their mother; Mrs. Maurice Volentine, Estico, Ark.; Mrs. John Adams, Eli, Neb.; Mrs. Henry Wood, Avoca, Iowa and Mrs. Louis Sladek, Creighton. Smith at Middle Branch, Nebraska. Two sons of this marriage died several years ago, Edwin Lowden in 1908 and Almond Bartley, whose death occurred in 1919. After the death of her husband on the 4th of May, 1900, she and her children made their home with her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Smith of Page, Nebr. In 1901 she was married to J.W. Scott Adams of Venus, Nebr. To this union one child was born, Ruth, who is now Mrs. George Wilcox of Lynch, Nebr. After the death of Mr. Adams in 1925, Mrs. Adams made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Louis Sladek in Creighton until the past year, which she spent with her brother, Will Blain, at Phoenix, Arizona. It was in this city that she passed peacefully away on August 27, 1929. Mrs. Adams was a woman of high ideals, of true refinement. She was a devoted wife and mother, an earnest Christian, a devout member of the Episcopal church and a member of the Eastern Star. Besides a host of friends and relatives who mourn her loss, she is survived by five daughters, three brothers, Ed Blain of Phoenix, Ariz.; Charley Blain of Middle Branch, Nebr.; Geo. Blain of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Ada Lockhart, Ashland, Or.; seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; four stepsons and four stepdaughters.
