Born on Jan. 16, 1892, in Burlington, he was the son of Josiah and Sarah (Burns) Carter. He was married on Feb. 27, 1937, to Nellie Bowen, who survives. A member and former trustee of First Congregation United Church of Christ, he was a barber for more than 70 years. He was a partner in the Carter and Bousum Barber Shop, Kokomo. He had also worked as a realtor for 35 years, and was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Also surviving with the wife are a son, Bruce K. Carter, Kokomo; a daughter, JoAnn Starner, Kokomo; a foster son, Ronald Bargerhuff, Greentown; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A son, two daughters, two brothers, a half sister and a half-brother preceded him in death.Services will be held Thursday in the First Congregational Church with the Rev. John Staton officiating.
