Description	:	Nellie Obbink, 89, of Hawarden died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996, at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden. Services were at 10:30 Friday at the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Timothy Van Zalen officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Porter-Dow Funeral Home, Hawarden. Mrs. Obbink was born Jan. 17, 1906, in Hull, the daughter of Evert and Jeanette (Zorgdrager) Brunsting. She attended school in Hawarden and married Richard J. Obbink April 23, 1925, at Hawarden. Mrs. Obbink was born Jan. 17, 1906, in Hull, the daughter of Evert and Jeanette (Zorgdrager) Brunsting. She attended school in Hawarden and married Richard J. Obbink April 23, 1925, at Hawarden. The couple farmed near Hawarden until 1967, when they retired and moved into town. He died June 24, 1987. Mrs. Obbink was an active member of the Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Bible Study and a past pianist. She crocheted many items for the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary and also volunteered many hours at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Irene and Mitch Van Berkel of Edgerton, MN., and Geneva and Vern Van Zanten of Luverne, MN., six sons and their wives, John and Donna of Sioux Center, Richard and Wilma of Hawarden, Edwin and Betty of Edgerton, Earl and Janice of Littleton, CO., Harvey and Mary of Orange City, and Melvin and Darlene of Sioux City; a brother, Edward Brunsting of Cedar Rapids; 34 grandchildren; and 66 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ernest J. Obbink; four brothers, Albert, John, Fred and Harry; a sister, Jeanette and a grandson, Harold Van Berkel. Hawarden Independent 1996-01-11.
