WEITTINHILLER ---------- As announced last week the remains of Mrs. P . S. Weittenhiller were brought here last Thursday to the home of Dr. and Mrs. Carroll and the funeral was conducted at 10:30, Saturday morning from the Methodist Church, Rev. Bushnell of Rock Rapids, preaching the sermon. Interment was made in the Laurens cemetery. The circumstances of Mrs. Weittenhller's death are peculiarly sad in that she died among strangers. The family had packed up and Mrs. Weittenhiller, Clara and Leland had gone to San Antonio. Texas, where they were moving for her health and where she was soon stricken while Mr. Weittenhiller and Clyde were on the way with the car. When news came the car was stopped and turned back and finally billed to Indianola, where the family will reside for a time, expecting ultimately to move back to Laurens. At the funeral the following obituary was read: Nellie E Jones--deceased-- was born at Platteville, Wisconsin, February 16, 1867 and died at San Antonio, Texas, Monday March 7,1910 being at the time of her lamented death, 42 years and 20 days old. The deceased grew to womanhood at Platteville, Wisconsin where she was married on August 25, 1888 to Mr. Phillip S. Weittenhiller with whom she lived a most devoted and loving wife for more than a score of years. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Weittenhiller moved to Sikta, Alaska where they lived for five years and where their daughter Miss Clara was born. From Sikta they moved to Laurens where they passed must of their happy life. Here Clyde and Leland were born and here except for one year's absence—at Sibley—they lived up till a year ago last June when on account of the health of Clyde the family moved to Winfield, Kansas. Ten days ago because of the failing health of Mrs. Weittenhiller, in company with Miss Clara and Leland she started for San Antonio. Reaching there Mrs. Weittenhiller felt invigorated by the climate conditions but she survived but four days, slipping quietly down the wharf and out into the Great Sea where she met the Great Pilot in whom she had so confidently put her trust. Mrs. Weittenhiller was a very devoted and loving wife and mother. Ideal were those strong bands of love and affection with which she bound up her family and friends to her heart, and while she passed out of our sight those strong bands of Christian womanliness still hold our hearts in love and esteem. Here is a power that lasts longer than life doth last and "Is stronger than death is strong." Tender and loving in her home; solicitous for the welfare of family and friends; devout in her ideals of life and Christian in all her relations, she won the hearts of all her acquaintances and in her death, her life is eloquent of Christian womanliness. Being dead she yet speaks to us. Early in life Mrs. Weittenhiller became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. All of its interests were dear to her and to all its noble projects she was loyal and true. She always gave herself in loving ministry to others and has been spoken of by those who knew her best as an "ideal Christian woman." She leaves to mourn her untimely death, beside her husband and her three children, an aged father who is waiting just outside of the Gates, a sister, Mrs. D. W. Merry and two brothers Forrest and Frank and a very large circle of warmhearted friends who will feel in her passing a personal loss. May her noble life be a strong magnet in all our lives to draw us by cords invisible to the Blessed Home Land where we pray that we may all one day become citizens.
