Garvis, 81, of Spencer, died Monday, March 1, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholics Church, Spencer, with the Rev. Timothy Schott officiating. The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements The daughter of Merit and Margret Reynolds Lewis. Mrs. Garvis was born December 28, 1911 in Hebron, Nebraska. She received her early education in country schools around Vermillion, South Dakota She married Ira Garvis on September 29, 1930 in Jefferson, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived in Vermillion and Jefferson, South Dakota for a while before moving to Spencer. While living in Spencer, Mrs. Garvis was a member Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been a cook at Sacred Heart School for more than 15 years. She was also active in the mission group and the Altar Society She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Jean Mae Holten; two brothers and two sisters She is survived by her husband;, one son, Ira Garvis, Jr., of Spencer; two daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Bob Ellis of Independence, Missouri and Nelette and Steve Cochren of Ames; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Eugene Lewis of Portland, Oregon and one sister, Hilda of Rockford, Illinois Spencer Daily Reporter
