CRESSEY Case in Court Recalled That Created Unusual Interest on Account of Prominence of Parties Mrs. Nellie E. Cressey, wife of Capt. F. J. Cressey, died yesterday at her home, No. 1644 Gramercy Place. No arrangements for the funeral have yet been made. The deceased was the fourth wife of Cressey. In October, 1906, less than one year after her marriage, her friends came here from the East and instituted proceedings to have her declared incompetent. It was shown at the trial that she had loaned Cressey $1000 within ten days after the wedding; that he had her life insured for $10,000, and that a month later she had deeded him all her property. These were the circumstances that led her friends to attack her competency, together with the fact that they had received letters from Cressey telling them that his wife was very ill and likely to die. After hanging in the courts for several months, the case resulted in the declaration that Mrs. Cressey was incompetent, and the Merchants' Trust Company was appointed trustee of her estate. Six months later she was restored to competency by the action of the court, and has been living with her husband at her home on Gramercy Place.
