Description	:	Services will be held Wednesday November, 19, 2003, for Nellie F. Mauzey, who passed away November 12, 2003, in Fortuna at the age of 84. She was a resident of Fortuna. Nellie was born in Shasta County on August 20, 1919, to Steve and Martha Pawley Hixson and was one of ten children. She was raised in Holmes and at the age of 14, started waiting tables, a job she kept for over 35 years. She was voted ‘Waitress of the year,’ by the longshoremen. Mauzey, who passed away November 12, 2003, in Fortuna at the age of 84. She was a resident of Fortuna. Nellie was born in Shasta County on August 20, 1919, to Steve and Martha Pawley Hixson and was one of ten children. She was raised in Holmes and at the age of 14, started waiting tables, a job she kept for over 35 years. She was voted ‘Waitress of the year,’ by the longshoremen. During World War II, she worked in the Vallejo shipyards as a welder and she also worked in the Eureka Barrel factory. We all remember her as a hard worker who always took pride in a job well done. She had a dry sense of humor and is fondly remembered as a real "Hell Raiser" in her youth. Nellie is survived by her children, Delores Shultz, Gloria Alfred, Robert Allen, Dee Dee Gunther, Dan Mauzey, Gail Williamson and Delbert Mauzey. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as her good friends, Deanna Pullen, ‘Bunk’ Rick, and Norman C. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Calvin Briceland, John Allen, and Francis Mauzey, and by her son, Michael Allen. Friends are invited to attend Memorial services on Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ocean View Cemetery Chapel, with Reverend David Groe officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble’s Chapel, Fortuna. Published in Eureka Times-Standard on November 16, 2003.
