Description	:	Nellie Gertrude Allen, the daughter of Gertrude and Peter Jacob Pingel, was born on a farm in Shelby Township, Shelby County, Iowa on February 5, 1887. She died in the Avoca Nursing Home in Avoca, after a lingering illness, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 14 days. Her childhood and youth were spent in the Avoca-Shelby vicinity and after she grew to womanhood she became a seamstress, making clothing for families in that area. January 1, 1930 she married Ode E. Read More	Nellie Gertrude Allen, the daughter of Gertrude and Peter Jacob Pingel, was born on a farm in Shelby Township, Shelby County, Iowa on February 5, 1887. She died in the Avoca Nursing Home in Avoca, after a lingering illness, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 14 days. Her childhood and youth were spent in the Avoca-Shelby vicinity and after she grew to womanhood she became a seamstress, making clothing for families in that area. January 1, 1930 she married Ode E. Allen in Harlan. He died October 2, 1958. She continued to make her home in Harlan until her health became such that she had to move to the nursing home in Avoca. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 7 brothers; August, Hugo, Wilhelm, Peter, Rudolph, Franz and Herbert, who died one day before Mrs Allen and a step-son, Lafe Allen. She is survived by 2 brothers; Lou Pingel of Sedgwick, Colorado and Walter G. Pingel of Shelby; 5 sisters; Mrs Nora Koeser of West Point, Nebraska, Hertha Pingel of San Jose, California, Mrs Ida Ratzburg of Wonewoc, Wisconsin, Mrs Masrtha Kardell of Oakland and Mrs Lillie Brakert of Winside, Nebraska; 2 step-children, Mrs Henry Sorensen of Harlan and Hugh Allen of Atlantic. Funeral services were held from the Pauley Funeral Home Wednesday, May 23, with Pastor Oscar E. Johnson officiating. Burial was in Harlan cemetery. Pallbearers were George Kriz, Donald Morse, Frank Kardell, Delbert Pingel, George Kardell and Wilbur Johnson. The Harlan News Advertiser Harlan, Iowa May 28, 1962
