Description	:	Irene Smith was the third child and first one born in Iowa. Her father, born of Irish emigrant father, was a station agent, later working for I.S.U. in Ames. Her 15yr. old Aunt Myrtle Speck, her mother's sister, lived with them in 1910. Her widowed grandmother, Araminta (Benbow) Hickman, lived with them in 1920, in Boone. She was an accountant and manager with several businesses before retiring and was a member of Soroptimist Club, Iowa Genealogy Society and Napier Alumni Association. She was active in Girl Scouts. Irene Crippen, 94, of Ames died of a heart ailment Friday at Silver-crest Assisted Living there. Services were at First United Methodist Church In Ames, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery. She is survived by her brother, Marvin Smith, born about 1929, of Rockville, Md.; and two sisters, Lucille Richards of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Lola Fern Olinger of Ames. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold.
