Nellie received her education in rural school in Luanna, IA. She married Ernie Faber, Jr. in 1932 in Luana, IA. Where they lived until their divorce in 1938. She was an extremely hard working woman who was... Read More	Nellie Egeberg was born on June 8, 1911 in Luana, IA, the daughter of William and Jessie (May) Ruckhaber. She died on Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 95. Nellie received her education in rural school in Luanna, IA. She married Ernie Faber, Jr. in 1932 in Luana, IA. Where they lived until their divorce in 1938. She then married Oscar Egeberg on October 28, 1939 in Wuakon, IA., and the happy couple moved to Brookings, South Dakota where they farmed for over 57 years. She was an extremely hard working woman who was generous to all and was known for preparing a meal every Sunday for the Egeberg family and all their friends. Oscar's and her farm house was always a gathering place for the family and friends. On one Sunday in the early 50's, over 50 cars were parked in and around the driveway. The round table in her kitchen was a center of love, laughter and memories. Every one of her children and grandchildren were touched by her strong sense of right and wrong and it was common to hear someone state, "What would Grandma think?" She taught everyone in the family the beauty of laughter and her wit and quick mind always made us think or laugh in chorus. When asked a few years back what she thought was the greatest invention she had seen in her lifetime, she didn't hesitate, "the washing machine" , she said. She was a woman that stood 4'10", but was the foundation for our family and will be dearly missed. Oscar died on January 25, 1996 in Brookings, SD. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings and gave to several charities throughout her life. Her hobbies included gardening, mowing the lawn, bird watching, raising chickens and gathering eggs. Nellie is survived by one son, Darwin Faber of Laramie, WY; nine grandchildren, Patty Hudson, Michael Rasmussen, Philip Egeberg, Sonia (Faber) Brown, Michelle Egeberg, D.C. Faber, Aaron Egeberg, Danielle (Faber) Monique, Lisa (Faber) Stebbins; nine great grandchildren; one brother, James Ruckhaber (Sandy) all of Luana, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Lavonne "Bonnie" (Faber) Hoff, one son, Benjamin Egeberg, five brothers, Bill, Albert "Ole", Robert, Thomas, Abbot, and five sisters Rossetta, Mae, Margaret, Hazel and Delany. Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery Brookings, SD
