She was 76 years, 9 months and 3 days old at the time of her death. Nellie Mae Meyers was born on June 1, 1895 in Tremont, Illinois. She was the daughter of Mary Rose Anna and Joseph Meyers. She was 76 years, 9 months and 3 days old at the time of her death. Nellie Mae Meyers was born on June 1, 1895 in Tremont, Illinois. She was the daughter of Mary Rose Anna and Joseph Meyers. Her marriage to John Edward Stecker took place on Dec. 26, 1916 at Tremont, Illinois. This union was blessed with seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Stecker started farming at Yates City, Ill. and lived there until the year 1920, at which time they moved to Hillsboro, Iowa. They settled on a farm south of Hillsboro in the Harrisburg Community and lived there until they moved on March 17, 1969 to the Fairfield Convalescent Home in Fairfield. Mrs. Stecker was a good mother to her family. She loved, cared and provided for them always. She was very active in community and church affairs. She was a member of the Chapter BY TTT, Bonaparte and the Legion Auxiliary at Bonaparte. Mrs. Stecker was a good and faithful member of the Harrisburg Baptist Church. She was real active in the Women's Missionary Society and also served in responsible ways in the Sunday School and in the church. She will long be remembered for her kindness, her interests and desire to serve where and when needed, as long as health permitted. Surviving Mrs. Stecker are three sons, Dean of Hillsboro, Lester of Bonaparte and Gilbert of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Rhea) Brombaugh of Stockport, Mrs. Phil (Irma) Elliott of Bonaparte, and Mrs. William (Neva) Carter of Stockport. She also leaves to mourn her departure 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Wilbur (Emma) Wehmeir of Tremont, Ill.; several cousins and a host of friends. Preceding Mrs. Stecker in death were her husband, John, on July 26, 1969, one infant son, one sister and her parents. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the Harrisburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Smith officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the Vale Cemetery in the Harrisburg community.
