Description	:	Amacy N. Loomis farmed with his wife Mary Windsor one mile south of Farley. They had one daughter, Nellie. On the evening of July 4, 1886, both Loomis and Edwin Mitchell were taking their milk to the creamery. Mitchell driving behind Loomis turned out in an attempt to pass. A. N. Loomis applied the whip to his horses wishing to keep the lead. Both wagons raced side by side before coming to the crossing of the Central Railroad near the creamery where the bridge was not large enough to admit two teams to pass over... Read More	Amacy N. Loomis farmed with his wife Mary Windsor one mile south of Farley. They had one daughter, Nellie. On the evening of July 4, 1886, both Loomis and Edwin Mitchell were taking their milk to the creamery. Mitchell driving behind Loomis turned out in an attempt to pass. A. N. Loomis applied the whip to his horses wishing to keep the lead. Both wagons raced side by side before coming to the crossing of the Central Railroad near the creamery where the bridge was not large enough to admit two teams to pass over at one time. On each side of the bridge was a gutter. The Loomis wagon ran off on one side causing the wagon to overturn throwing A. N. out. He struck the rail of the track with his head and shoulders. Upon regaling consciousness, he was able to move a limb. A. N. Loomis died 16 hours later on July 5th at the age of 32. His eight year old daughter was also thrown from the wagon, breaking an arm and receiving bruises. Edwin Mitchell and his passenger were unharmed. A. N. Loomis was buried from the Presbyterian Church to Fairview cemetery. May Windsor Loomis died in 1907. Their daughter, Nellie Loomis Strief, was raised under the guiding hand of her grandfather, N. J.
