The daughter of Hudson and Clara York, she was born at Alton, Kansas on Sept. 3, 1904. She made her home in Alton until she was united in marriage to Stephen Martin on May 7, 1923 at Hays, Kansas. Read More	The Hooper Sentinel (Hooper NE) Thursday, July 15, 1976 Mrs. Nellie Martin Sep. 3, 1904 - 1976 Mrs. Nellie Viola Martin, age 71, passed away following a lingering illness. The daughter of Hudson and Clara York, she was born at Alton, Kansas on Sept. 3, 1904. She made her home in Alton until she was united in marriage to Stephen Martin on May 7, 1923 at Hays, Kansas. They lived for a short time in Alton and then resided in various cities in Kansas, Iowa and Colorado until 1947 when they moved to Uehling and made this their home until their deaths. Steve preceded his wife in death on July 21, 1975. From 1958 until 1973, Mrs. Martin was a cook in the Uehling Public School; she was also a member of the First Congregational Church of the United Church of Christ in Uehling, of the Ladies Aid and of the Uehling Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, Richard of Medford, Oregon, William of Omaha, one daughter, Mrs. Herman (Jeanne) Mahlendorf of Uehling, seven grandchildren and one brother, Carl York of Winterset, Iowa. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the First Congregational Church of the United Church of Christ in Uehling, Rev Arthur Hermanson officiating with interment in the Baptist Cemetery. Warne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Music for the service was provided by Marvil Christensen and Mrs. Raymond Wedergren. Pallbearers were Robert Golder, Dallas Hilgenkamp, Raymond Johnson, Stephen Jones, Herbert Mahlendorf and David Winchell.
