Many thanks to FAG contributor Kathy Monical (#49101662) for the following obituary: Nels Bjerrum was born in Ribe, Denmark, March 24, 1845, and died at his home in Seward, Nebraska, February 24, 1907, aged 61 years and 11 months. In 1871 Mr. Bjerrum came to America and settled in LaSalle county, Ill., where he was married the following year to Mary Vedster. In 1879 the family moved to Nebraska and settled on a farm near Staplehurst, in this county, where they remained until 1884 when they sold out and removed to Hamilton county, but in June of that year the farm that had been purchased there was again sold and the family returned to Denmark. After remaining there until 1889, howver, Mr. Bjerrum again turned his face westward and returned to Seward county, once more purchasing the land which he had purchased when he first came to the state ten years ago. Here he continued to make his home until last September, when he purchased property in Seward and removed here to make his future home. His death was the result of pneumonia, and his spirit took its departure at 2:20 o'clock Sunday morning. The deceased is survived by his widow and six children, three sons and three daughters, one child having died several years ago. Short funeral services were held at the home in Seward at 11:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, and the remains were then taken to Staplehurst where the regular services were held in the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock, Rev. George Williams of Seward having charge at both places, the deceased having been a member of the Presbyterian church. The remains were laid to rest in the Danish cemetery, three miles northwest of Staplehurst. Seward Independent Democrat, Seward, NE, Thurs, February 28, 1907
