Christensen, Clay County resident for more than sixty years, who died at his home, 303 East Fifth Street, where his critical illness had been a matter of a few weeks Rev. J.M. Jensen, Pastor of the church, was assisted in the service by the Rev. S. Peterson of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Royal, where Mr. Christensen was a member for many years. The Church was largely filled with friends and former neighbors of the Royal community Miss Betty Jensen was soloist accompanied by Arthur Borensen. Except for Harold Borensen, the pallbearers were grandsons of Mr. Christensen. They were John and Rodney Swanson, Leslie Christensen, Harold and Amos Christensen, Jr. Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of the Cobb Warner Funeral Home Born in Denmark N. Julius Christensen was born in Denmark, December 20, 1862. At the time of his death he was 82 years and 2 months of age. His parents came to America a few years before he did. He joined them in this country at the age of 16, spending some years on his father's farm. He attended the Clay County Schools to satisfy his ambitions to master the language and further acquaint himself with the customs of his adopted country On March 21, 1905 he was married to Esther A. Fingerson of Royal. They established their home on a farm near Royal and lived there until retiring from active farm life and moving to Spencer in 1918 Mrs. Christensen died in 1934 and he continued to reside in their modern and comfortable home on East Fifth. Four or five years ago his sight began to fall and for the past couple of years he has been nearly totally blind Mr. and Mrs Christensen became the parents of eight children, four of whom survive. They are Mrs. J.W. Swanson of Spencer, Mrs. Maurice T. Battin of Minneapolis, Mrs. A.L. Freeman of Spencer and Amos Christensen of Royal Preceding their father in death were Walter, Arthur, Fred and Frederick. He is also survived by two daughters in law, Mrs. Walter Christensen of Royal and Mrs. Arthur Christensen of Osage. There are twelve grandchildren While living near Royal he served as a council member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a teacher in the Sunday School of the Church. He was a faithful church attendant all his life and rarely missed a service until a few weeks ago Spencer Daily Reporter March 3, 1946
