Another of the local couples who will join the ranks of those married half-a-century within the coming eight months are Mr. and Mrs. Nels Everson. They have been residents of Lincoln County for approximately 50 years, and. since 1909 actively associated among the affairs of this locality. Mr. Everson was continuously connected with grain-buying enterprises from 1899 to 1933, starting a 24-year span here in that connection in 1909. He was elected alderman from ward three here in 1926, serving from May 1, that year, consecutively until May 1, 1938. He served two terms as mayor, being elected in 1921 and 1923, respectively, and served a month of the unexpired term left by the death of W. B. Smith in April, 1931. Mr. Everson was born March 6, 1869 near Argyle, Lafayette County, WI, and in 1873 his parents moved to Ashton, la., where they remained until moving to Inwood, (IA.) in 1884. He was united in marriage to Miss Bessie A. Clapp at Canton, S. D., February 13, 1890, and went back to farming in the Hawkeye state, near Inwood and in the fall of 1891 re-settled on a farm six miles south of Harrisburg (S. D.) in Lincoln County. In 1899 they discontinued farming and moved to Harrisburg, where he entered the grain business. He worked at this trade there until they took up their residence in 1909 in Lennox, when he resumed his connections in that occupation and remained continuously with these duties until 1933. Mrs. Everson was born on a farm near Markesan, Wis., in Green Lake County, December 29, 1872. Here she lived for 15 years, and in 1888 her parents moved to Hospers, IA., where they lived one year before taking up their residence at Inwood, la., in 1889. She was married the following year. Mr. and Mrs. Everson have six children, reading as follows: Nathan Everson, Winston-Salem, NC.; Mrs. Frank (Rachel) Thompson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. J. W. (Lela) Simons, Chamberlain, S. D.; Mrs. H. W. (Frances) Jibben, Hurley, S. D.; Mrs. Daniel (Bessie) Otten, Lennox, and Lyle Everson, at home. There are seven grandchildren.
