Description	:	Nels Voldal, age 85 of Spiritwood died at his home in Spiritwood Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1982. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Sanborn, with burial in the Spiritwood Cemetery. Nels Voldal was born Sept. 11, 1897 in Perry, Wisconsin to Henrik Voldal who was a pioneer Norwegian Lutheran minister and Sigrid (Femreite) Voldal. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Sanborn, with burial in the Spiritwood Cemetery. Nels Voldal was born Sept. 11, 1897 in Perry, Wisconsin to Henrik Voldal who was a pioneer Norwegian Lutheran minister and Sigrid (Femreite) Voldal. Nels graduated from high school in Volga, S.D. and attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota for three years. In 1917 he interrupted his studies to join the U. S. Army during WWI. He had also farmed in Herman Township south of Sanborn. He married Ruth B. Erickson and the couple had six children. In 1952 the family moved to Spiritwood. He was a charter member of the American Legion, Sanborn Eckelson Post 202 and a member of the Sibley Trail Barracks of Veterans of WWI. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, three sons and one daughter, Henrik of Valley City, Roger of Spiritwood, David of San Diego, California, and Vicki Rosenau, Valley City; six grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Kristie Stumley, Gertrude Voldal and Estrid Robinson, all of Brookings, S.D. and one brother, John of Oceanside, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one son and one brother. Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown is in charge of arrangements.
