Read More	Former Banker Succumbs Here — Heart Ailment Is Fatal to Nelson Delavan; Rites Wednesday — Nelson Delavan, 62, 2021 S. Olive street, former Iowa and Nebraska banker, who had lived in Sioux City the last two years, died Sunday at a hospital of a heart ailment. He had been ill more than six months. Mr. Delavan was a native of Glenwood, Ia., where he was born July 20, 1886. He attended public schools there before enrolling in the school of business of Cotner college, Lincoln, Neb., of which he was the first graduate. At the age of 17 he went to Tabor, Ia., to work in the First State bank, of which he later became vice president and active head. He was treasurer of the Tabor and Northern railway, treasurer of Tabor college, and treasurer also of the town of Tabor and of the consolidated school district. — Married in 1909 — On October 20, 1909, he married Maude Smith at Tabor. In 1928 they moved to Omaha where Mr. Delavan was collection chief of the Federal Land bank for the state of Nebraska. In 1942 they moved to Lincoln, where he was in charge of the Federal Land bank office. In 1943 they moved to Santa Monica, Cal., and later lived in Chicago and Lynwood, Cal., before coming to Sioux City in September, 1946. During his younger years Mr. Delavan was a star tennis player. He was gifted also as a musician, playing the slide trombone. His maternal ancestors were the founders of Estes park in Colorado, his mother having been Permelia Estes. A paternal uncle was founder of Delavan Lake, a Wisconsin resort. Surviving besides the widow, a nationally known author and one of the Women of Achievement of the Journal-Tribune publications, are a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Wainwright, and three grandchildren, all of Sioux City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the W. Harry Christy funeral home in Morningside. Rev. E. J. Plummer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
