Surviving are her husband; two sons, Milton and Charles; a daughter, Muriel; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Aschenbrenner of Des Moines; and two sisters, Mrs. C. G. Van Peursem of Laurens and Mrs. E. C. Huff of Des Moines. The Laurens Sun, Laurens, Iowa, Thursday, 25 Dec 1947, Section Two, Page 1: Funeral Services Held Thursday For Mrs. Ivan Hartley -------- Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. at the McKee Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock at the Laurens Methodist church, on Thursday, Dec. 18 for Mrs. Ivan Hartley, who passed away Monday, Dec. 15, at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge. The Rev. T. E. Hoon of Dows was in charge of services, because of the illness of the Rev. H. O. Ward. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Fred Forsythe Jr., Mrs. Hascal Thomas, Edwin Dubbert and Clarence Morgan, accompanied by Mrs. H. M. Pohlman. They sang "A Shelter in the Time of Storm," "Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us" and "Under His Wings." Pallbearers were Glen Siddall, Russell Siddall, Merritt Clark, Victor Wallin, Clarence Anderson, and Harold Ryon. Burial was at the Laurens cemetery. Born in 1905 Netta Marie, eldest daughter of John H. and Vida A. Aschenbrenner, was born in Laurens, May 22, 1905, and departed this life at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge, Monday, Dec. 15, 1947, at the age of 42 years six months and 23 days. She lived with her parents and grew to womanhood in the Laurens community, and was graduated from the Laurens public schools with the class of 1923. On July 19, 1924, she was united to Ivan Hartley of Laurens, and to this union three children were born; Milton Evans, Charles Ivan and Muriel Marie. During the year 1926 they lived at Kenosha, Wis., returning to Laurens the family made their home here until 1942, when they moved to Des Moines, and in 1945 they again returned to this community to make their home. Chairman of Circle On April 20, 1920, she was baptized and united with the Laurens Methodist church. She served as chairman of the Dorcas circle of the Woman's Society of Christian Service during the past year and had been selected as chairman of the circle for the new year. She was of a quiet, unassuming disposition, manifesting a spirit of hope in the face of her recent illness, and impressed all who knew her as being sincere and kindly. Surviving are her husband; three children, Milton of Ames and Charles and Muriel of Laurens; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Aschenbrenner of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Lorna Hoff of Des Moines and Mrs. Vida Van Puersem of Laurens, besides a large circle of friends.
