She started high school in... Read More	The following is the text for "Faye's" obituary: Nettie Faye McVey Smith was born on March 5, 1902 in Wayne County, Iowa. She was the daughter and the first child of Samuel Bailey McVey and Fannie Edna Niday McVey. She passed from this life at the Des Moines General Hospital on July 23, 1988 at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 18 days. "Faye," as she was known to many, spent most of her childhood on the family farm located near Humeston, Iowa. She attended grade and grammar schools in rural schools near the farm. She started high school in Pamona, California, where the family lived for a short time. Faye graduated from the Humeston High School in Humeston, Iowa. After graduation from high school, Faye attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa; she took two correspondent courses from the LaSalle Extension University; and she attended the Cedar Rapids Business College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Faye was then employed at the office at the Woodward State Hospital in Woodward, Iowa; at an attorney's office; at the Ordinance Plant near Ankeny, Iowa; at another attorney's office; and, finally, at the Commercial Clearance Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa. Faye retired on January 1, 1974 after working 19 years as a secretary at the Commercial Clearance Corporation. In addition to the farm near Humeston, Iowa and Pamona, California, Faye lived near Woodward, Iowa; in southern Iowa; and, finally, at 5001 Douglas Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa, where she had resided since September 1, 1942. Faye remained at her home on Douglas until just three and one-half weeks before her hospitalization and death. In addition to her job, Faye kept busy doing activities with family members and friends, working in her flower gardens and with her house plants, taking care of her home, and making things with her hands. Faye also enjoyed cats and had many as pets. Faye was preceded in death by her father, her brother Everett, and her mother. Leaving to mourn her passing are several nieces, nephews, and other family members. She will be sadly missed by her family members and friends, but they will cherish the many fond memories of the happy times spent with Faye.
