Her intent was suicidal, but the reason for her act is not clearly established. She had declared her intention to end her life, and before taking the fatal draught had prepared her body for burial. Mrs. Voshell and Miss Nettie were in the garden picking berries Thursday forenoon, and the girl went to the house. Mrs. Voshell went later and called her daughter, who responded. Mrs. Voshell called again, the girl did not reply, and when the mother went to the bed room she saw something was wrong. She hurriedly called Mr. Voshell from the field, but before he could bring a doctor to the place his daughter was dead, death occurring at about 11 o'clock. Sheriff Culver and Coroner Cole were summoned, and an inquest was held Thursday evening. Miss Voshell's sister and a Miss Johnson testified that the girl had been apparently despondent for a month or more, but the cause was not brought out. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that death was due to self-administered poison, with no cause known for the act.
