Description	:	Neva Van Gorp, age 89 of Grinnell, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019 with her family by her side at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Funeral services at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Rev. Jim Dotson officiating. Harold Fortner, Kenny Hiner, Kurt Hoen, Gabe Hoen, Cory Townsend, and Chad Winters as pallbearers. Interment in Lower Blue Point Cemetery south of Grinnell. Neva Dell Asberry was born on March 21, 1930 in Monticello, Kentucky, the daughter of Lewis and Dora (Bridgeman) Asberry. She was raised in Monticello and when she was eight years old the family moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where she attended school. Neva married Robert Van Gorp in the 1950's and the couple lived in Grinnell. Their marriage was annulled shortly thereafter. Neva worked at several area businesses including, Holland Plastics in Gilman, FarmHand in Grinnell, the Grinnell American Legion, and retired from Grinnell Regional Medical Center on March 1, 1995, after over 20 years as a housekeeper. Neva enjoyed playing bingo, solving crossword puzzles, going to rodeos, watching the Chicago Cubs on TV, and visiting with family and friends. She dearly loved her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her twin sister, Eva Fortner, and niece, Sandy Sheets. Neva will be remembered for being very caring and giving, for being a hard-worker, and for the love of her family. Survived by her son, Randy (Rosalind) Van Gorp of Grinnell; two grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her twin sister Eva Fortner of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lillian Criswell, Lucille Hiner, Carson Asberry, and William Asberry. Source: Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, Iowa
