Description	:	Neva Josephine (Kleppe) Brendsel, of Rio Terra Retirement Community, New Braunfels, Texas, passed away at her home due to congestive heart failure on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the age of 95 years, 4 months, and 21 days. Neva was born on Wednesday, March 9, 1921 in Cottonwood, Minnesota to Ava (Albertson) and Rasmes Kleppe. She spent her childhood in Cottonwood and was the youngest of 2 daughters. Read More	Neva Josephine (Kleppe) Brendsel, of Rio Terra Retirement Community, New Braunfels, Texas, passed away at her home due to congestive heart failure on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the age of 95 years, 4 months, and 21 days. Neva was born on Wednesday, March 9, 1921 in Cottonwood, Minnesota to Ava (Albertson) and Rasmes Kleppe. She spent her childhood in Cottonwood and was the youngest of 2 daughters. She graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1939. Neva was married to Rolland Brendsel, the oldest son of Knute and Lula Brendsel of Baltic, South Dakota, on Thursday, November 23, 1945 in Cottonwood, Minnesota and ultimately ended up living in Baltic after Rolland was discharged from the U.S. Army. After they moved to Baltic, Rollie took over has dad’s business, "Brendsel Electric, Plumbing and Heating." They were very active in the Baltic community as some of the leaders who built the High School Gymnasium in 1957 - 1958, built the municipal liquor store, got the city streets paved, to name a few. Neva and Rollie also bought a farm immediately adjacent to Baltic where he raised sheep and crops for many years. That farm is now the site of the Baltic Public School and many new homes. During World War II, Neva worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” in California. After her kids got a little older, she worked in the Minnehaha County Welfare Office. Rollie and Neva retired in 1980 and eventually moved to the McAllen, Texas area, but commuted back to their lake home on Lake Poinsett, SD for many years during the summers. They eventually lived full-time in Texas. They were both very active in their retirement community in Mission, Texas often coordinating community events for the residents there. Neva spent much of her time crocheting and playing golf. She was proud of her ‘hole in one’ at the community golf course. After she decided she’d had enough golf, Neva began making Hardanger embroidery pieces. She donated many Christmas ornaments to her church in Texas which are still used today. Rollie and Neva were long time members of the Baltic Lutheran Church, but moved their membership to Trinity Lutheran Church when moving to Texas. When they relocated to Brooke Ridge Retirement Community they did attend the Presbyterian Church for a time, but later joined Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McAllen prior to Rollie's death on August 11, 2014. After Rolland passed away, Neva moved to Rio Terra in New Braunfels, Texas. Neva is survived by 3 children, Richard (and Michal) Brendsel, Marlin (and Sherry) Brendsel, and Darlene (and Tom) Phelan; 5 grandchildren, Lucas, Erick, Camille, Daniel and Stefanie; 10 great grandchildren, Ethan, Adin, Alyssa, McKenzie, Bret, Briella, John, Anna, Elinor, and Scarlett; and her brother-in-law Harold (LaVonne) Brendsel of Colman, SD. Neva was preceded in death by her husband Rolland, her parents, and her sister Reba Bahn. Her cremains were interred next to her husband's in the St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, of Baltic, South Dakota on Saturday, September 24, 2016. A memorial visitation followed the committal from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Baltic American Legion in Baltic.
