Description	:	Newman Hickman was the son of John and Dinah (Davis) Hickman. He married first: Miriam North in Randolph County, Indiana on February 1, 1842. Four children were born to this union: Franklin M Hickman 1843 – 1861 George W Hickman 1847 – 1905 John J Hickman 1850 – 1850 Charles L Hickman 1853 – 1853 Miriam died of measles in 1853 in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky. Read More	Newman Hickman was the son of John and Dinah (Davis) Hickman. He married first: Miriam North in Randolph County, Indiana on February 1, 1842. Four children were born to this union: Franklin M Hickman 1843 – 1861 George W Hickman 1847 – 1905 John J Hickman 1850 – 1850 Charles L Hickman 1853 – 1853 Miriam died of measles in 1853 in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky. She and the two infant sons, John and Charles, are buried in Asbury Methodist Cemetery in Highland Heights, Campbell County, Kentucky. Following the loss of his wife and two youngest sons, Newman married second, Hannah J. Thornburg in Randolph County, Indiana in 1854. Sometime between then and 1863, Hannah apparently died. Newman eventually left Kentucky with his older sons and moved to Iowa (probably before 1861, as son, Franklin, enlisted in the Army in Iowa at the age of 18.) It is unknown if this was before or after the death of his second wife. He married Miranda Louessa Likes on February 24, 1863 in Polk County, Iowa. He later moved to Marquette, Hamilton County, Nebraska where he died and is buried. The following provided by Contributor: norannl (46625869): Aurora, NE, News-Register on Saturday Aug 28, 1897 - Marquette, Aug 25, 1897 - Newman Hickman passes quietly and peacefully away on Tuesday at 2am, aged 76yrs. He had been in bad health for a number of years, but since last spring has been unable to leave his bed. He was born in North Carolina, and while still in boyhood removed with his parents to Jasper County, IA, after spending a number of years there, he removed with his family to Seward County, NE, where he lived nearly 13yrs. For the last 7yrs he had been a resident of Marquette. He leaves a wife and 2(sic) children to mourn his loss, one son having gone before(sic). The funeral was conducted by Rev.D.A. Giel at 2pm from the family residence on Wednesday, and the remains, followed by a large concourse of friends, were laid to rest at the Richland cemetery. NOTE: in 1897, he has 3 sons & one daughter alive; He & Miranda had 9 children of which only 3 were alive in 1900. NOT sure which son 'has gone before'?? He & Miranda lost 5 sons & 1 daughter in childhood. He and Miriam lost 2 in childhood & 1 in the Civil War.
