Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery at Anthon under direction of Walter Funeral Home. Nicholas Bernard Theobald was born January 16, 1889, at Mount Carmel, Iowa, to Anton and Rosena (Walz) Theobald. As a boy he came with his parents to Danbury and later they moved to Mapleton. He attended mechanics school in Kansas City after which he lived in California for one year, coming back to Iowa in 1915. He married Cecelia Topf on January 1, 1916, at Mapleton. After a year they moved to Little Falls, Minnesota, where they lived for three years. They then moved to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, where they resided for the next five years. In 1926 they moved to the Anthon area. Mr. Theobald retired in 1953 when he and his wife moved into Anthon. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, a past member of Holy Name, Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau, and was an assessor for several years and won a conservation award. Survivors include his wife Cecelia, two sons, Father Vincent Theobald of Boroko-Papua, New Guinea, Richard J. of Anthon; three daughters, Mrs. William (Berneice) Crabb of Sepulveda, California, Mrs. William (Margaret) Atwood of Allen, Missouri, Mrs. John (Alice) Galvin of Correctionville; one brother, Msgr. George Theobald of Spirit Lake, Iowa, twenty eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, one son Gerald, two brothers and two sisters.
