Description	:	Married Ellen L. Freeland on Feb. 23, 1871 in Michigan Center, MI. Nicholas was a Civil War veteran serving in the Union Infantry. He came to the Dakota Territory in 1883 at the age of 41 and worked for the railroad company laying track north on the branch line along which the town of Dazey originated. A year later his wife, Ellen, and son, George, came west to join him. He homesteaded a quarter of land five miles southeast of Dazey and in 1889 the fee of $8.00 was paid to the U.S. Government and documents filed declaring him the owner.... Read More	Married Ellen L.
