He married, 12, 1729-30, Martha Havens, a daughter of William. She died September 25, 1746. Nicholas married, second, Dorcas Gardiner, a daughter of Ephraim. He was a large landholder and the owner of many slaves. In 1746, '53, and '54, he was a Deputy, and in 1759-61 he was a member of the War Committee. In 1767 he was made Lieutenant Colonel. Children Of Nicholas And Martha (Havens) Gardiner Mary Gardiner, was born Sept. 22, 1732, and married, Feb. 28 (8?), 1759, Oliver Reynolds. William Gardiner, was born Sept. 19 (9?), 1734, and married, March 2, 1760, Martha Reynolds. Margaret Gardiner, was born June 13, 1736, and married(?), April 6, 1767, John Reynolds. Nicholas Gardiner, was born March 2, 1738, and died June 6, 1815. He married, first, Honor Brown, and, second, Oct. 19, 1762, Deborah Vincent. Martha Gardiner, was born Aug. 31, 1739, and died Sept. 6, 1819, aged 80 years. She married, March 3, 1760, Stephen Arnold, of North Kingstown, who died Feb. 24, 1810, aged 71 years. Ann Gardiner, was born May 28, 1741, and married Samuel Mowrey, Feb. 28, 1762. Elizabeth Gardiner, was born Sept. 22, 1743, and married, Feb. 8, 1763, Benjamin Champlin. Huling Gardiner, was born Aug. 18, 1745, and married, Feb. 1,1767, Elizabeth Northup, a daughter of Col. Immanuel Northup, of North Kingstown. By Second Marriage James Gardiner, was born Oct. 26, 1750, and died Feb. 17, 1795. He married Sarah, who died Sept. 25, 1783. (This marriage is questionable.) Sylvester Gardiner, was born Aug. 30, 1752, and married, June 6, 1773, Hannah Reynolds, a daughter of Jonathan. She died Oct. 25, 1814, aged 58, being called widow. Francis Gardiner, was born April 4, 1755, and married Waite West. Dorcas Gardiner, was born March 12, 1760, and died in 1811. ∼The husband of Martha (Havens) + Dorcas (Gardiner), also the son of Nicholas and Mary (Eldred).
