Was Long-Time Resident of Butler County and David City. Nicholas Helgoth, long-time resident of Butler county and David City, passed away at 4:30 o'clock Wednesday morning, March 22, at his home in Northeast David City, following illness of 12 weeks with dropsy and complications. He was in his 80th year. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, with Requiem High Mass by Rev. A. M. Mosler. Music was by St. Mary's choir. The pallbearers were Joseph Blei, Frank Eiting, John Lanspa, Mike Medinger, Philip Theewen and Peter Zegers. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. All of Mr. Helgoth's children were in attendance at the funeral, as was also a granddaughter, Miss Geraldine Thill, of Stamford. Born on June 3, 1853, at Bavaria, Germany, Nicholas Helgoth came to America in his youth and located in Illinois. He was married at Gilman, Ill., on January 22, 1875, to Miss Julia Frey. After their marriage they resided in Illinois until moving to Nebraska and Butler county in 1883. They lived on a farm in Center township for 40 years, retiring from farm life and moving to David City in 1923. To them were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, all of whom, with their mother, survive, namely, Mrs. Martin Theewen and Frank and Charles Helgoth of Butler county, near David City, Henry, William and George Helgoth of Sterling, Colo., and Mrs. N. J. Thill of Stamford. Mr. Helgoth is also survived by 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Helgoth was a kindly man, always with a cheery word f greeting for those whom he met in daily life, ever willing to lend a helping hand when needed, and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends and neighbors as well as by his family and other relatives. He was ambitious and hard working in his occupation of farming and devoted his energies to securing a competence for himself and his family. ___ Card of Thanks - We wish to express our heartfelt thanks for all the help and kind assistance given us during the illness and at time of death of our dear husband and father, also for the many floral offerings and spiritual bouquets.
