Read More	The Grinnell Herald-Register (Grinnell, Iowa) April 22, 1963 NICK VOGEL Nick Vogel was born November 10, 1874, in a log cabin near North Vernon, Indiana, and passed away at the St. Francis Hospital, Grinnell, Iowa, on April 17, 1963, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 7 days. He was the son of Peter Vogel and Anna Mary Hauersperger Vogel. Other members of this family were: Lena Vogel, sister; Peter Vogel, brother; Maggie Bauerle, sister; Barbara Maschino, sister; and George Vogel, brother, all of whom preceded him in death. He was married October 14, 1902, to Elizabeth Maschino, who passed away on the 26th day of May, 1959. Mr. and Mrs. Vogel came to Iowa to make their home in October, 1902, and farmed near Victor and Hartwick, Iowa, until 1905, when they moved north of Malcom. They lived near Malcom at all times since, and Mr. Vogel maintained his home at Malcom until his death. They celebrated their golden wedding on October 14, 1952. To this union eight children were born. They were Victor Vogel and Frank Vogel, both of Malcom; Charles P. Vogel, of Grinnell; Father Lawrence Vogel, of Nichols; Louis Vogel, of Riceville; Elizabeth Kohrman, of Florence, Kentucky; Father Raymond Vogel, of Davenport; and a son, Joseph Vogel, who died in infancy. Vogel is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic church, at Brooklyn, Iowa, on April 19, 1963. The solemn high mass was celebrated by Father Lawrence Vogel; assisted by Father Raymond Vogel as Deacon; Father Charles Gannon, of Georgetown, as Subdeacon; Father Eugene Hoenig, Chaplain at St. Francis hospital, Grinnell, Iowa, as master of ceremonies; Father Ed Leahy, as the censer bearer; and the acolytes, who were Father David Goetsch and Father Michael Broderich. The sermon was delivered by Father Leo Kuebrich, pastor of the St. Mary's church, of Grinnell, Iowa, the priest's choir sang the mass which was directed by Father Frank Lollich. Approximately 50 priests were in attendance. The pallbearers were six grandsons, the same being Larry Vogel and James Vogel, of Malcom; Richard J. Vogel, of Grinnell; David Vogel and Thomas Vogel, of Riceville; and James Kohrman, of Florence, Kentucky. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Brooklyn. Mr. Vogel was a retired farmer; a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, of Brooklyn; a charter member of the Brooklyn Catholic Order of Foresters; and a member of the Holy Name Society. Mr. Vogel had been in failing health for the past two years. Those attending from a distance included: Mr. Leo P. Vogel, of Leon, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Vogel and Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Vogel, of North Vernon, Indiana; Mr. and Mrs. John Kohrman and family, of Florence, Kentucky; Charles Mehlin, Raymond Mehlin and Lina Hummell all of Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Vogel and family, of Riceville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Richter and Mr. and Mrs. Jean Devereaux, of Adair, Iowa; Elizabeth Goreham and Ann Devereaux, and Irene Crees of Des Moines, Iowa; and Charlene Bettag, of Stone Park, Illinois.
