Whisnand, whose serious illness was mentioned in these columns last week breathed his last about 10 o'clock Tuesday morning last. The funeral services were conducted from his late home on Pleasant Ridge Wednesday at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. Thos. K. Hunter, of this city, after which his remains were intered in the Lowman cemetery. The deceased was born in old Virginia on the 27th of October, 1800. He moved with his parents to Greencastle, Indiana, in 1808, and in young manhood he located in Monroe county, Indiana, where he resided until 1875, when he moved to Iowa, and purchased the home upon which he breathed his last. He was married twice, his first wife having died almost 50 years ago and his second wife still survives him. The fruits of his first marriage was three children, of his second four children, all of whom are married. Mr. Whisenand's life is as true and patriotic a life as any man of his day. He always took advanced grounds on all moral reform and in his younger days was quite active in politics -- being a Whig, an Abolitionist and a Republican from the birth of this great and glorious party, and at the late reunion of old soldiers out at John Scholfield's only three weeks ago he was present and when Major Lyman finished his talk to "the boys" Mr. Whisenand who was seated in the crowd arose and moved "three cheers for gallant Major Lyman." His life was a very eventful one, one in which all the hardships and adversities that the hardy pioneer had to encounter and master. He lived a christian life and died full of hope in a glorious immortality. He was a friend to the friendless, and a father to the fatherless. He had a great abhorance for everything that was wrong. His life throughout was well spent. He had long since past the time alloted to man -- three score years and ten. He has gone to his grave honored, respected and mourned by all who ever knew him. The 1885 Iowa Census shows that he resided at Griswold, Cass Co., Iowa and not in Monroe, Iowa * per Frank Merriman
