Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Newman Grove. The Rev. Susan Sanders will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home. Mrs. Briese was born April 7, 1916, at Newman Grove to Fred and Freda (Lulow) Benson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Newman Grove Methodist Church. She attended 12 years of school at Newman Grove schools and graduated with honors and received a scholarship to Wayne State College. She returned to Newman Grove, where she worked at Newman Grove Creamery from 1934 to 1953, serving as office manager for many of those years. She married Robert A. Briese Aug. 16, 1953, at the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove. The couple lived on their farm northeast of Albion. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove and was recognized for 50 years of membership in April 1999. She was also an active member of United Methodist Women. She was a member of Newman Grove American Legion Auxiliary, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Albion, Friendly Neighbors Extension Club, Whirl and Twirl Dance Club, Bridge Club and Christian Women's Club (After Five Group). She enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Jr. Jacobi of Genoa; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Truman, Byron and Dale. The Grand Island Independent, Sept. 25, 2002
