Ushers will be Gordon Nielsen and Kermit Sorensen. Ben, 74, died Saturday June 22, 1996 at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood. Ben was born March 11, 1922 at Dagmar, a son of Niels J. and Rosa (Christensen) Nielsen. He attended Lowell School and lived and farmed near Dagmar nearly all his life. He was in the Army and served in the 13th Armored Division under General Patton in the European Theater during WW II. He was married briefly to Agnes Sorensen. Although he spent most of his life in Northeastern Montana, he had a wide scope of knowledge about the world because he was an avid reader. Ben was a self-educated man. He was generous and gave to charities benefiting people in need, especially children. He was interested in the environment and animals. Ben loved his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins and they always knew they could come to him and enjoy each other's company. He was the type of man who could keep confidences and respected the privacy of others. Survivors include a Daughter Rita and her husband Tony Eck of Gonvick, Minnesota. Also surviving are two grandchildren Chris and Candace, his mother, Rosa of Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood, a brother Harold "Nick" Nielsen and his wife Cleo of Dagmar, a sister Elizabeth Anderson and her husband Oliver. He was preceded in death by his father Niels, a brother Ambrose, who died in infancy, two sisters; Sylvia Lindberg and Marie Christensen. A granddaughter Annette died in infancy.
