Description	:	Niels F. Petersen was born April 22, 1877, in Faxe, Denmark, and died Oct. 28, 1940, in Plainview at the age of 63. Complications following an accidental fall contributed to his death. He had returned to Plainview only last summer to live on the home farm. Mr. Petersen came to this country in early childhood, the family settling in Antelope County. He was graduated from Fremont Normal School in 1902, took a bachelor's degree at University of Nebraska in 1907, and a master's four years later, and became a science teacher. Complications following an accidental fall contributed to his death. He had returned to Plainview only last summer to live on the home farm. Mr. Petersen came to this country in early childhood, the family settling in Antelope County. He was graduated from Fremont Normal School in 1902, took a bachelor's degree at University of Nebraska in 1907, and a master's four years later, and became a science teacher. He taught in Louisiana from 1909 to 1913, and in Ancon, Panama, the next year. From 1917 to 1920 he was with the Experiment Station of the Nevada range management, and since 1921 had been in the agronomy department at the Nebraska experiment station. Besides contributing to several bulletins issued by the experiment station, Mr. Petersen published a book "Flora of Nebraska," which went through three editions. He was affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Botanical Society of America, Society of Agronomy and the Nebraska Academy of Science. Surviving are a brother P.H. Petersen of Plainview; three sisters, Mrs. Marie D. Larsen of Lincoln, Mrs. Anne C. Bergh of Plainview, and Mrs. Sophie Frost of Brunswick.
