Description	:	Buried on Lot with wife "Anne M; daughter Anna A. of G & C Miller; and Father Andreas Miller" Niels (N.L.) Pedersen was born in Torslev, (Han), Hjorring, Denmark. He served in the Danish Army and was a leaser at Torup. He and his wife, Anne Margrete Nielsen Petersen, and his parents, Peder Christian Larsen and Jacobine Sorensen Larsen came to the United States in 1886. He served in the Danish Army and was a leaser at Torup. He and his wife, Anne Margrete Nielsen Petersen, and his parents, Peder Christian Larsen and Jacobine Sorensen Larsen came to the United States in 1886. "They worked for one year for Drey Sorensen and then purchased 80 acres ffom Lars Esbeck 2 miles west and 3/4 south of Exira. On the trip from Denmark, a small son became ill and died soon after the family came to the Exira area. P.C. and N.L. farmed the land together. They later purchased another 80 acres directly west of the original 80 in Oakfield township from Paul Jensen. Several children were born during this time and they lived in a small house on the east 80. In 1908 a large 9-room house was built. During the building, the men, boys and carpenters slept in the barn and the women and small children lived in the kitchen of the small house which became the summer kitchen and wash house... A large barn was built in 1892. In 1901, an additional 32 feet were added to the original 42 feet and it was quoted in the Audubon County Journal that P.C. and N.L. "boasted of having the longest barn in Audubon County" at that time. During the building of the large house, the women and children lived in the summer kitchen. The story was told of riders on horseback going by. They took a shot at the dog who was asleep by the summer kitchen. The bullet entered the house just inches over the bed of Bill, who was a baby, asleep in his cradle. We don't have a record of the cost of the material for the large house, but the carpenters were paid $325.00."--page 124, Quasquicentennial Book, Exira, IA 1857-1982. N.L. and Anne had ten children: Peder Christian who died young, Albena who married Jack Nichols, Christena who died after she had an appendicitis when she was 19 years of age, Chris who married Anna Jensen, Andrew who married Florence Nissen, Anna who married Einar Miller, William born and died in 1902, William born in 1903 who married Dagmar Jensen, Leona who married Glenn D. Britton, and Leonard "Pete" who married Velma Richard.
