Description	:	Niles Emett Carroll, 98, a Wenatchee area resident for over 50 years, passed away Tuesday evening, April 27, 1999 at Central Washington Hospital. He was born on Oct. 5, 1900 at Dawson City in the Yukon Territory on the Canadian side of the Yukon River and Alaska. Read More	Niles Emett Carroll, 98, a Wenatchee area resident for over 50 years, passed away Tuesday evening, April 27, 1999 at Central Washington Hospital. He was born on Oct. 5, 1900 at Dawson City in the Yukon Territory on the Canadian side of the Yukon River and Alaska. When he was three, he moved with his family to Buckley, by way of a sternwheel riverboat. They farmed in Buckley until moving to the Yakima valley in 1911. He received his schooling in the Queen Anne area of Seattle and Wapato. Niles moved to the Wenatchee Valley in 1920 and worked for Coffman Brothers Land and Livestock. On June 20, 1921, he was married to Frances Rice in Wenatchee. They moved to make their home in Yakima where they owned a store. In 1936, they moved to Chelan and they owned an orchard in Manson. They trucked their crops to California to be sold while they stayed the winters. In 1939, they moved to Long Beach, CA where they remained until moving to Seattle where they owned a Venetian Blind Factory. When the rationing caused by W.W.II made material shortages, it prompted them to sell their business. They moved to Okanogan in the early 1940s and settled on a 17 acre orchard. Three years later they sold the orchard and purchased a cattle ranch near Winthrop, where the golf course is now located. In 1948, they returned to Wenatchee and later settled in East Wenatchee. During this time, Niles constructed three homes in Wenatchee and in 1950, they purchased the Inland Motel and Trailer Park in Ephrata. They operated their businesses while remaining in East Wenatchee. In the mid 1960s, they sold the motel and due to the untimely death of the new owners, Niles again took over its operations. He sold the motel again in the mid 1970s. On Dec. 22, 1978, he was married to Mary Grace Marchant in Wenatchee, where they have since made their home together. They enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona for six years. Niles was a member of the Ginko Mineral Society and the Wenatchee Senior Citizen's Center. He is survived by his wife, Mary Grace Carroll, at home, two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Jim Davenport, and Nilene and Dick Cunningham all of Wenatchee; two stepchildren and their spouses, John and Shelley Marchant, Wenatchee and Marlene and Bill Chadderton, Naalehu, HI; one sister, Ruth Mohler, Wenatchee; eight grandchildren, Steven Niles Davenport, Florida, Scott Davenport & Betsy Loomis, Wenatchee, Michael Dalgren, Provo, UT, Scott Dahlgren and Lisa Dahlgren, both of Salt Lake City, UT, Kurt Dahlgren, Olympia and Heidi Desmaris, Seattle; four step-grandchildren, Susan Fox, Wenatchee, Ryan Marchant and Rory Marchant both of Kent and Rachael Lozier, Puyallup; 16 great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances M. Carroll and brothers, George W. Carroll, Jim Carroll, Frank Carroll, Dave Carroll, Lawrence Carroll and one sister, Gladys Phelps. Commemorations services will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley with the Rev. Bob Shepard officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from noon until 8 p.m. Friends who wish may make memorial donations in his name to the charity of their choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
