Nina Dorothy "Patti" (Mace) Smith was born on Nov. 8, 1946 to Luther and Dorothy (Bruning) Mace in Hot Springs S.D. Since Patti's father served in the military she moved around many times as a child. She enjoyed spending some of her summers as a teenager with her Uncle Everett and Aunt Jeannie's home in New Mexico. While working at Buckskin Joe in Canon City Colo. pretending to rob the stagecoach she met Earl Siefken Jr. They were married on Nov. 27, 1964. They were blessed with three children: Virginia, Earl and Katherina. While married to Earl she moved many times. Patti enjoyed working for Lawrence Brown, Jim and Janice Clarkson, The Nation Center News and driving school bus. She was an active EMT helped with Girl Scouts. She really enjoyed running a Bed and Breakfast in Belle Fourche. She shared her love for Jesus while teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. Patti attended BHSU College in Spearfish in 1996 and 1997 while living in Belle Fourche. Later in life Patti was reunited with her high school sweetheart William "Bill Smith. She moved to Lucedale, Miss. They were united in marriage on March 8, 1998. While in Mississippi she worked for the George Co. Times Newspaper, George Co. Radio and as a substitute teacher at the elementary school. After discovering she had cancer in 1998, she returned to S.D. while receiving treatment, later on returning home to Mississippi. When she started her second battle with cancer in 2000 she moved back to S.D. to be with the rest of her family. In 2004, she moved to Bison, S.D. While she lived in Bison she enjoyed working with the flowers in The Flower Shop, sewing and making sure that all her grand children and great-grand children had handmade quilts and spending time with her neighbors. Throughout Patti's life she loved being outdoors, fishing, digging dinosaurs, going on picnics music and writing. Patti will be remembered as a talented homemaker loving daughter, mother grandmother great grandmother, sister, aunt and a woman with a strong faith and love for Jesus. Patti died on September 11, 2009 at her home in Bison, with Ginger by her side after battling Dysphagia. Blessed to have shared her life are her mother, Dorothy M. Dedmon, Bison, SD; husband, William "Bill" Smith, Lucedale, MS; one son, Earl (Sharon) Siefken, Pierre, SD; two daughters, Virginia "Ginger" (Mel) Utter, Douglas, WY and Kathy (Terry) Hafner, Bison, SD; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carole (Glen) Worthem, Bison, SD; three step-children, Lee (Audrey) Smith, Robbie (Stephanie) Smith and Billy (Angie) Smith, all of Lucedale, MS; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Patti was preceded in death by her father, Luther Mace, step-mother, Myrtle Mace, stepfather, Billy Dedmon, Johnny Yoakum, one brother, Luke Mace, one uncle, Everett Tuning, and one nephew, Christopher, Mace. A family service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15 followed by visitation until 9:00 p.m. all at the Grace Baptist Church in Bison.
