Description	:	Centurion, Nita Watkins, 100, of Central City, died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Long Term Care. Nita was born on May 16, 1910, in Merrick County to John O. and Anna "Pearl" (Curtis) Rawlings. On April 30, 1931, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Watkins in Archer. He died July 19, 1973. Nita was born on May 16, 1910, in Merrick County to John O. and Anna "Pearl" (Curtis) Rawlings. On April 30, 1931, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Watkins in Archer. He died July 19, 1973. Survivors are: daughters, Betty King and Barbara Sidders, both of Central City, and Mary Belle and Richard Svitak of Marquette; 14 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bethel Hild of Cozad. Nita attended rural Merrick County School, graduated from Archer High School in 1928, and attended the Grand Island Business School. Nita and Robert made their home and farmed near Archer. Nita worked at the Merrick County Courthouse for the county judge as a court recorder, she worked for the assessor's office, was deputy treasurer for five years and then completed her career as county treasurer. Nita also worked for Riley Insurance Agency and from 1954 to 1973 she worked at the Republican Nonpareil newspaper, both in Central City. A year after her husband died, Nita moved into Central City. She had lived at Long Term Care since November of 2000. Nita was a member of the First Christian Church in Central City and was a member of the Dorcas Circle. She became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1928 and served as Grand Matron and was Grand Page in 1952 and 1979. Nita was a member of the District Eight Homemakers Extension Club, the Garden Club, and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, flowers, ceramics, and traveling with tour groups. She was preceded in death by her husband; granddaughter, Jocelyn House; sons-in-law, Dale King and Dean Sidders; brothers, Cecil, Leonard and John Rawlings; and sisters, Opal Neel, Lillie Stander, Gertrude Williams, and Pauline Mapes.
