The father of the deceased was Able Crabtree, who came with his family to Cass County at an early day. In the family circle were five boys and one daughter; Allen, Noah, Travis, Ross and Elsie, all of whom have passed away except the oldest son, Allen, who lives at Lincoln with his daughter, Mrs. Clara Ketulhut. Noah Crabtree was born in Ohio on April 39, 1851, and departed this life at Maywood, Nebraska on February 22, 1930 at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 22 days. His parents moved to Nebraska when he was 3 years of age and settled near Rock Bluffs in Cass County where they made their home. At the age of 30 he decided to make a stand for Christ and united with the Christian church at Rock Creek, a small country church near his home. He held his membership there until coming to Maywood, where he has been identified with the church ever since. Believing that he could be of more service to his fellow man, he joined the I.O.O.F. lodge here at Maywood in 1903 and tried to uphold the principles of Oddfellowship in making a good Oddfellow - as being grateful to your creator, Faithful to your country, and Fraternal to your fellow man. Not only will Noah be missed in the lodge room, the home and the church, but by the whole community. On May 16, 1883, he was united in marriage to Alma J. Bates at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Four children were born to this union, three girls being born in Cass County, and one boy after they moved to Maywood. On February 20, 1883, he arrived at Maywood in an emigrant car ( An emigrant, or colonist car was a type of railway passenger coach designed to provide inexpensive long-distant transportation for immigrants, mainly in North America. They were noted for very spartan accommodation and settled on a farm one and one-half mile southeast of town where he made his home for a number of years, making one move to Maywood where he has since resided. Noah knew some of the hardships of the early nineties but always faced them with the same smile that was part of his nature. He leaves to mourn his departure his widow, Alma (Bates) Crabtree, his children, Jessie Embry and Myrtle Sloan of Maywood, Josie Likens of Kimball, and Arthur Crabtree of McCook. He has thirteen grandchildren to miss him, and many nieces and cousins. Only one brother, Allen Crabtree of near Eagle, Nebraska, survives him. The rest of his brothers and sisters await his coming to the other side. The funeral was held from the Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon, February 25, with the I.O.O.F. conducting the services in their regular form. Reverend R. F. Shacklock preached the ceremony and interment was in the Maywood cemetery. The Plattsmouth Journal, March 1930
