Description	:	The funeral for Nora Engstrom, 97, of Leeds was held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Leeds Lutheran Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died Aug. 14, 2001 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Pastor Richard Budd officiated. Dan Nybo was organist and Deb Dunlap was soloist. Casket bearers were Dennis Adams, Hubert, Paul and Ralph Blegen, Dennis Fogelson, Les Haagenson, Curtis Jacobson and Kermit Kristenson. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements. Nora Engstrom was born Dec. 1, 1903 at Leeds to Rev. Hans A. and Anna Marie Nesset Blegen. At the age of a year, the family moved to Decorah, Iowa and returned to Leeds a few years later. She was educated at the Leeds School and in her senior year, received teacher training and taught at the Rush Lake rural school near Wolford. She then taught at Baker, Flora, Bantry, Wishek and near Alamo, while attending Minot Normal College, receiving the standard teaching diploma in 1930. On June 18, 1940 she married Jens E. Engstrom at Leeds. The couple farmed on the Engstrom homestead east of Leeds until moving to Leeds in 1965. He died April 19, 1986. She moved to the Haaland Manor Apartments at Rugby in 1993 and the Haaland Home in June of 1997. She was a member of the Leeds Lutheran Church and its WELCA. She was a member of the Leeds Alfredian Club and a homemakers club. She loved reading, gardening and caring for her yard. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Jack Hogan of Reston, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Judy Engstrom of Leeds; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 5 brothers, Olaf, John, Peter, Norman and Joseph Blegen; and 2 sisters, Ellen Blegen and Hannah Pearson.
