Description	:	Mrs. Ray Hughes, 69, of Chatsworth died early last Thursday morning at the Hawarden hospital. She had been ill for a period of about three years but was in the hospital only a few hours. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral home with Rev. Paul Williams of the First Baptist church in charge. James Squier, with Mrs. P.W. Peters as accompanist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God To Thee." Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery. She was born January 14, 1887, at Huron, S.D., but moved to Audubon, Iowa, at the age of five. She married Ray Hughes at Rockwell City, Iowa, August 14, 1902, and just last week they observed their 54th wedding anniversary. After her marriage she lived at Lake City for six years when she moved to Hardwick, Minn. She lived at Oak Grove park northeast of Hawarden for 11 1/2 years when her husband served as custodian. When she left Hawarden she returned to Audubon where she lived until last spring when she moved to Chatsworth so she could be near her daughter, Mrs. L.G. Scheifen. Survivors include the widower; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Harding of Minneapolis and Mrs. L.G. Schiefen of Hawarden; two sons, Walter of Worthington, Minn., and Bernard of Odebolt, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Belle Griffen of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Peter Van Scoy of Audubon, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
