She will be sadly missed by her six children and daughters and sons-in-law: Wayne (Ann Tompkins), Laurie (Darlene Jackson), Judith, Lynne (Ken Keirstead), Gail (Bruce Crawford), and Kelly (Nancy Graham); by her nine grandchildren, Jeff (Donita) and Chris (Andrea)Tompkins, Ryan (Rachelle) and Alison (Luke) Mesheau, Kate and Beth Crawford, and Mitchell, Graham, and Noah Tompkins; and by her five great- grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Matthew, Adam and Ella Tompkins. She will be remembered and mourned by her many nieces and nephews whose lives she was always interested in and by her surviving brothers Ronald (Maudie) Kelly and Charles (Winifred) Kelly, as well as her many friends of all ages. At the age of fourteen when she lost her own mother, Noreen began a lifetime of caring for her family and spent the rest of her life being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a woman who took pride in the many homes that she created for her family in the small towns throughout New Brunswick where her husband served as CPR stationmaster: Millville, Minto, Chipman, and Hartland. She was the mistress of many households in her lifetime and always made a warm and inviting home for her family and friends; for her children, she always represented home. In Fredericton she spent her later years enjoying the beauty and peace of the backyard garden, the loving support of her family, and the activity of the Charlotte Street neighbourhood . An avid card player and board game enthusiast, she spent many happy hours playing bridge throughout many decades of her life and enjoyed nothing more than playing hearts and forty-fives with her brothers and friends. Her grandchildren will forever have fond memories of playing card and board games with their beloved GT at the kitchen table. She was always ready to play, and she always played to win. When she became a resident of Pine Grove, she had her meals at the small round table in the dining room and enjoyed saying that she was one of the ladies of the round table. Even in her last difficult months, she never lost her sense of pride and dignity. She will be fondly remembered as a formidable woman whose humour, curiosity and keen interest in the world around her profoundly touched the lives of all those who were blessed to know her well. The family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff of the Pine Grove Nursing Home who cared for her in the final months of her life and helped to ease her passing. We thank them for their patience and kindness. For those who wish, memorial tributes can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Pine Grove Foundation. A memorial service will be held at J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, 160 York Street on Friday, June 8. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:00 PM. The service will begin at 2 oclock.
